Moving up from sixth place to fourth, Canada is now in the top five countries in the world for immigrant integration policies.
According to the most recent findings of the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX), Canada is now the fourth most immigrant-friendly nation in the world.
The move from sixth place to fourth was, according to MIPEX, because Canada removed obstacles for newcomers trying to obtain citizenship, as well as increasing health access to asylum seekers.
The MIPEX report, as well as another recent report from the BAV Group which ranked Canada first place for quality of life, bodes well for Canada’s plan to welcome 1.2 million newcomers over the next three years.
About the Migrant Integration Policy Index (MIPEX)
MIPEX is a ranking system that measures countries around the world on policies that integrate immigrants. 52 countries are evaluated by MIPEX, with notable exceptions for Africa, most of the Middle East, and parts of Southeast Asia.
They score each country out of 100, across multiple factors. The three main criteria MIPEX uses to assign rankings are:
- Basic rights: Do immigrants have the same rights and freedoms as native-born individuals.
- Equal opportunities: Do policies support equal opportunities for education, work, health, and political participation.
- Secure future: Are the policies in a particular country supportive of immigrants long term future, by providing access to nationality or family reunification.
