About Quebec’s jobs for Canadian newcomers program

The program connects members of visible or ethnic minorities with jobs in their field for one-year contracts. After the contract is up, there is a possibility of regular ongoing employment in the Quebec public service after completion of a qualification process.

Persistent underemployment is a problem for many newcomers to Canada. Being a member of a visible or ethnic minority can compound the problem. Programs that connect newcomers with jobs in their field of expertise are a great way to address this issue and increase newcomer participation in the labour market.

Most candidates applying to this program will have immigrated to Canada through a Quebec immigration program. But the requirements do not explicitly state this is a requirement.

Eligibility requirements

  1. Be a member of a visible or ethnic minority
  2. Have obtained permanent resident status less than five years ago
  3. Have less than 1 year of Canadian work experience in a job that matches your qualifications
  4. Meet the admission requirements for the job offered
  5. Have knowledge of French appropriate to the duties

There are many French-speaking Canadian newcomers outside of Quebec. So even if you didn’t immigrate to Canada through a Quebec immigration program, you should still be eligible for Quebec’s jobs for Canadian newcomers opportunity.

In fact, if you are willing to relocate to Quebec, this program could be a great option to work in Canada at your first job.
